For Rajesh Patel, owner of Queens Spice Co., the flavors of his childhood home inspired a business that has been serving the Flushing community for 8 years. Queens Spice Co. provides high-quality Indian, Caribbean, and global spices to both retail customers and local restaurants.
“Queens is a melting pot, and our spices celebrate that diversity,” Patel explains. His store sources ingredients directly from small producers worldwide, ensuring freshness and authentic taste. The business carries a wide variety of products, including turmeric, saffron, chili powders, specialty curry blends, and rare spices that are difficult to find in mainstream supermarkets.
In addition to retail sales, Queens Spice Co. hosts cooking workshops and tasting events for the local community. Patel also works with culinary schools to teach students about spice blending, flavor profiles, and international cuisines. “We want to share culture through food,” Patel says. “Teaching youth how to cook with traditional spices keeps cultural heritage alive.”
