Rico Alvarez, owner of Elevate Apparel, a boutique in SoHo, Manhattan, has spent 6 years creating sustainable fashion that reflects both style and social responsibility. Elevate Apparel specializes in eco-friendly fabrics, locally sourced materials, and limited-edition collections.
The boutique’s offerings include ready-to-wear clothing, bespoke tailoring, accessories, and collaborations with emerging designers. Alvarez emphasizes craftsmanship, storytelling, and sustainability in every product. “Fashion in Manhattan isn’t just style—it’s culture, community, and responsibility,” he explains.
Elevate Apparel also supports the local designer community. Alvarez offers mentorship, workspace, and marketing guidance to up-and-coming brands, creating a small but powerful fashion ecosystem. “We want to help new talent thrive in an industry that can be tough, especially in New York,” he adds.
Over the past six years, Elevate Apparel has grown from a single storefront to a recognizable SoHo destination, attracting local clients, tourists, and fashion enthusiasts. Alvarez also emphasizes customer engagement through workshops, trunk shows, and seasonal pop-up events.
Challenges include high Manhattan rents, fast-changing fashion trends, and supply chain complexities. Alvarez navigates these by maintaining flexibility in inventory, building strong supplier relationships, and listening closely to customer preferences.
Being a New Yorker, Alvarez notes, means embracing diversity, risk-taking, and creative innovation. “The city challenges you every day, but it also rewards authenticity, perseverance, and originality,” he says.
Looking ahead, Elevate Apparel plans to expand sustainable production lines, explore e-commerce opportunities, and continue fostering new talent while serving Manhattan’s fashion-forward clientele.
